We’ve just seen the first trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and it sets up the basic concept: Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) ends up working with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz) to find the fountain of youth, with famed pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane) an an unusual accomplice/rival. Meanwhile Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) is working with the crown in some measure. Oh, and there are mermaids and zombies. Now director Rob Marshall, who is new to the series, has given up a few more details. ComingSoon talked to Mr. Marshall at a Pirates fan event, and he explained,
And he explains that, as seen in the trailer, Barbossa “has joined a different side… which is really shady.” Quite a lot of the first act of the original Pirates took place on land as well, so it’s not like the London opening will present a wild departure for the series, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the film’s crew created a period/fantasy version of the city. (Some of it is seen in the trailer, and the carriage chase is nodded to in that edit, too.) And, more than anything else, I’m looking forward to seeing Ian McShane growling his way through the script. |

With the first Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides trailer due to hit theaters next week in front of Tron: Legacy, it’s time to crank up the marketing campaign for the sequel that I still can’t quite believe actually exists. We got a look at the first teaser poster a few weeks ago, which showed us pretty much nothing, but now USA Today is premiering the first official image from the film, featuring Jack Sparrow and Penelope Cruz’s pirate temptress Angelica tramping through the swamp. Reporter Anthony Breznican was on the set to witness it all in action, but beyond some basic plot details didn’t come back with much. Jack, as we know, is on a mission to find the Fountain of Youth on behalf of King George II (Richard Griffifths), and he’s forced to work with Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) on the mission. Oh, and don’t expect any great epiphanies or character development for Jack Sparrow; as Johnny Depp put it, “Captain Jack is about as fully realized a human as he can be. He’s there. He’s going to stay there. Which is fine.” Take a look at the new images above, and look for the On Stranger Tides trailer to hit the web December 13. The movie opens May 20 next year. source: cinemablend.com |

Lending a sisterly helping hand, Monica Cruz is set to play her pregnant sister Penelope’s body double in “Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides”. Looking very much alike, Monica was brought up as the best option to stand in for scenes in the Rob Marshall directed Disney adventure – as Penelope is expecting her first child with husband Javier Bardem. Scheduled for general release in May 2011, the film finds “Jack Sparrow [Johnny Depp] and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too.” As for her workload, Monica will be used only for long shots requiring little or no acting – as closeups are reserved for her movie star sister. source: Celebrity-gossip.net |

Today at Comic-Con, during Disney’s panel, a surprise clip of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow was shown from the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I would imagine the clip was shown of Depp in his Sparrow costume. The clip included a greeting from Depp. The film will be directed by Rob Marshall and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film has some new cast additions, including Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane. The latest installment is about the colorful Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) as he encounters a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz) whilst on an unexpected journey to the illustrious Fountain of Youth. The woman forces him aboard the ship helmed by Blackbeard (Ian McShane). The latest Pirates movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is due to come out over Memorial Day weekend 2011. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be brought to you in Disney 3D. To learn more about the film, visit the WEBSITE. |

Production on “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” entered its fourth week on Monday, and just before the July fourth holiday we got our first look at Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. And guess what — he looks pretty much exactly as he did in the previous three “Pirates” flicks: dreadlocks, funky facial hair and boots engineered for maximum swashbuckling. What is new this time around is Depp’s love interest — none other than Penélope Cruz, who plays not only his potential sweetheart but the daughter of his nemesis, Blackbeard (Ian McShane). And producer Jerry Bruckheimer promised MTV News that the first time Depp and Cruz share the screen, audiences will be blown away. “She’s so fiery and fun,” Bruckheimer said. “I can just imagine how the screen is going to sizzle with the two of them on it.” Cruz and McShane, of course, aren’t the only new faces on the Hawaii set. Rob Marshall (“Chicago”) takes over directing duties from Gore Verbinski, who helmed each previous “Pirates” movie. While a new man is in the director’s chair, Bruckheimer said the look and feel of “On Stranger Tides” will remain the same. “Rob has figured out the tone of ‘Pirates’ and is playing right into what the other three pictures were,” he said. “He gets it.” That’s not to say nothing will change or that Marshall hasn’t been able to bring his own creative sense to the production. In at least once respect, “On Stranger Tides” will be a uniquely Marshall-esque experience. “He was a dancer and a choreographer before he was a director, so he loves movement,” Bruckheimer said. “We’re going to have a lot of movement fun in it.” Source: MTV.com |
